Indian American & Radio Hyper

6 Cuppa coffeee [comments ]
I gained a few compliments yesterday and for what ? - for hopping from one corner of the house to the other. That probably looks like a lot of work.
Served lunch to our guests without any blunder.
The thing is when you look tired and keep running around the house helter-skelter - the guests think you are  'doing a lot of work' which is really an exaggerated phrase considering the subject in question is me and of how little work I did/do.But who cares as long as it pleases mum.

The high point - apart from avoiding spilling water or colliding with furniture while walking fast -  the really funny part is how my appetite and taste buds showed their true colors. If the guests wouldn't eat the sweets I'd offer -  I would eat them up while walking back to the kitchen.I really didn't worry about the calorie intake.

Later in the evening I met K and Rads.K brought along with him his cousin from the US who fitted my every prejudiced opinion of an Indian American. I don't know his name.I forgot to ask.
I'm not a body-language-racist but if there would have been any Indian guy changing his facial expression as fast as the American desi we met did...I'd have spilled a bucket full of water over him.
Its not like I hated it..its just I found it quite peculiar of what they are.Westerners ..Americans or Brits wherever you see them - their body language is way too different , a lot of emphasis on their facial expression. And this guy..he would shrug too often , twitch his lips and speak in such a low voice that I would have to ask Rads to repeat what he said.

This is the first time I spoke to an American Desi face-to-face.Here's a snippet of our conversation which went off track.
Him : Have you been to Ahmadabad ? I like that place
Rads : Yeah
me : No
Him : Its really nice.
Rads : yeah..specially for foodies.
Him : what ?
Rads : Foodies..people who like to eat.
Him : *shrugs* That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard
lol
I didn't know what to say.I didn't know if I should even say anything.I only wished if Rads would keep her mouth shut for some time :D You know it when a conversation isn't clicking and at that time its simply better not to go into the explanatory mode + to tell an American to visit a place in India just for the food is really ...dumb.

Then the next thing he asked was about KFC & movies.True American :D
"You've seen Batman ?"
Rads : No
"No ?? that's weird."
 I agree.That's weird :D Poor Rads

"What are you studying?" , he asked me
K : Nothing.She's doing nothing.
me : shut up.I'm into commerce
"Ah! Ok..are you doing CA ?"
K grinned.I wanted to hit him.
Rads started laughing too.I wanted to hit her as it is - so she scored double at that moment.
me : well no..I've left it.
"Ok..my cousin's doing it.Its very very tough.Lot of studying"
Yeaaaaah I wanted to scream. It is tough.

Rads spoke non stop. She would interrupt when I'd say something and jump in the middle of my high quality advice or opinion.
She's not a chatterbox - just someone who won't stop speaking or won't let the other person speak.I've decided to save her name as Radio Hyper in my cell.
Even K didn't get to talk much this time. And I was pretty sure his American cousin was bugged to death. The 'I wanna run from here' expression was quite evident on his face.

Oh and how I could I miss mentioning how he wanted to ask a girl out in the mall.
"There was this tall girl.Really beautiful.White Skin.Very hot.I wanted to talk to her"
K didn't allow him ,  I figured.
And Radio Hyper explained him why it is weird to ask a girl out - at a mall at least- in India.
He found that strange.
He asked us wouldn't we talk to a good looking guy if he approached us.
Long lecture from Radio.I didn't hear it completely
When it was my turn to answer , I mumbled "Well..I..wouldn't"
"Why ?"
"Well see the point is a really good looking decent guy won't approach a complete stranger out of the blue."
Later when I was thinking of it , I realized I gave him all wrong notions.Guys do approach girls - like specially in colleges to make friends or to talk. And then , if the guy is really cool..the girl would obviously respond :P

Overall it was nice talking to the American. He took the initiative to bring about a topic but later stayed silent since the three of us got into the 'I'll hang you upside down on the fan' crap! Thats K's patent dialogue.
I have more things to talk about the Westerners.Sometime later.More guests coming up this week..lots of work lined up for me :D And lots of delicious food that mom's gonna cook.

You'll see it when you Believe it.

Its funny how we sit together & discuss future.Rare but some of the most special moments.
Discuss future ? Don't we all do that ?
Its kinda different in my family ..actually quite strange & funny with my dad.
It makes me nervous at times. It makes me want to fast fwd life the other times.
I wldn't prefer to go into past.I miss my childhood but I still have fun like a Kid.I watch cartoon with my younger sibling.I play along with him.I fight with him as if we are of same age.( Very immature here ) So my childhood & present is one & the same to me.
There's no rewind factor for me. Just forward. When things are clumsy & something nicer is approaching ..I wld just want to FWD time so that I grab the good things as early as I can.

A couple of weeks back ..we were discussing future. My dad wouldn't easily talk of it ..so when he does I make sure I make him spill all the beans. But he is reserved about many things.
One of the things he told me was that he sees a lot of expenditure in the near future.
So I was like..maybe its all of the left over furniture to be bought ? And maybe some of his work-related stuff ?
He repeated A LOT OF.
Oh so ?
He smiled and said he doesn't have a wink of an idea where the money is going to come from & where it is going to be spent.
lol I was amused , as always.

We discussed few more things.I tried tactfully but couldn't make him reveal more future upcoming events. The atmosphere got a little sentimental.Suddenly we ended the conversation.I wish I could derive more.Because its not everyday my father talks of our written future.

My dad can predict. He can predict the unpredictable. And all we have to do is be prepared in our lives.Nothing can be changed ..that being warned of.But he cannot ever reason as to why something will happen & How ? He just knows WHAT will happen.

Its FUNNY.It absolutely leaves me dazed.I wonder how he keeps up with things when he can see future not being very good. Its must be tough being my dad. Sometimes I also wonder ...just how he is able to pull days neatly knowing trouble is around the corner. And for the most of it..I wonder why he doesn't help me with my career. I just need him to tell me once that whatever I've chosen to do is the rightest thing.
I guess it is the right one.But I'm falling weak Dad.
I wish he tells me what I'm going to be.I mean ..after all when its all pre-decided with our destiny & all that higher level of philosophical jazz which I abs do not question as it is out of my range of understandings..it will be nice if I know what life has in store for me. So that I can begin to be THAT , begin to do what will eventually make me what I'm supposed to be.

Weird ? Yeah , this one ain't funny. Am dead serious.

There's a part of me ...the one that I'm fond of calling the Smart & Silent Believer who wants to make every living person on earth believe in destiny , luck & astrology.Prove it to them.
There's this other part of me..who thinks she can avail of the most defining experiences in life only if her dad makes it possible for her which he can but is in no hurry.

For me - Its not very important to Prove people how many amazing fantasy like things befall in and around our lives.
But if it can just strike for once...I'd like to taste the moment which I'm sure will be the most deliciously spicy dish I've ever had.

I never talk of my dad's talent to a lot of people. Not even with my closest friends. They never seen to be too keen to know.Or they never seem to understand what important , unbelievable & magical theory I'm sharing with 'em. If I sense that..I never speak of it again. But I've had enough of talking bout it to myself.
For I believe , if you know something special ...let the world know it too.
Because not everybody here is extraordinary.Really.
Don't have theories like those of the Old Egyptian Pharaohs who believed they will take Gold along with themselves after they die which is why their followers buried ornaments etc in their coffin.
Similarly Whatever it is here..enjoy it , spend it ( knowledge , money ) right here. Magical secrets need to be shared too , right here.

My belief in God has become stronger & much more confusing ever since I know of my dad's incredible talent which few more people share. But his take on life is the best I know for sure.
I've put a full stop on questioning God's existence.
Its not necessary to debate that anymore.

We see it only when we believe it.

In my NEXT life...

4 Cuppa coffeee [comments ]
I'm not one of those who forms a firm opinion about certain controversial / unbelievable / superstitious facts but do like to view them in different lights.Re-birth is one of 'em.
I don't know if it ever 'happens' or not.
But I somehow believe in the cycle on birth & death.
And so , I also think that some people are able to recollect memories from previous births.

Almost 4 years back , I watched a documentary on discovery channel where strange cases from different parts of the world ( yup , not just India ..unlike few people who think that only Indians believe in such 'crap' ) were given an account of.
I was thrilled.
There was this 15 yr old girl from Sri Lanka who for many years had been telling her parents that they are not her actual parents. She used to tell 'em of how she died by drowning in a river.Used to talk of weird places her parents had never heard of.She was scolded , beaten by her parents. When in spite of all their efforts in making the girl 'normal' failed , her parents decided to do some research. With the help of newspapers , they got few responses.
Out of the 17 strange things told by the girl , most were found to be true.
They located the place she used to talk about.Even met her parents from previous birth.
She cried & stumbled on the feet of her soul parents.

Second case was that of a 4 yr old boy probably from Canada who had a hole in his heart. His mother's father was a policeman who was shot in his heart many years before his birth. The boy told the names of the pet cats to her mother , the names her father used to call out , something that was never mentioned to him.Her mother strongly believes its her father who has come to see her.

I am not too sure how reliable discovery channel can be but somehow i just trust everything they have to tell me :-)
Facts & figures state that most of such cases are found in Sri Lanka where a lot of people believe in re-incarnation/re-births. ( as told by Discovery )

There are such cases in India as well but I haven't personally known or met a single person who knows of his past life. All I know is , if it is possible then I can at the most plan my future births ;-)
I'm never bogged down when people tell me am short. 5'1 is nothing.I know that!
I always tell myself " In my next life..."
With anything that I do not have in this life
Too many friends ?
" Ah , well..in my next life..maybe"
killer looks ( beautiful beautiful )
" In my next life..."

There are certain things that no matter how much I pray , am not going to be able to gain/change in this life like my height / looks / hair more recently :P
So I pray for them to be there in my next life.
And just in case there's no next life..then well am praying for a next life to live exactly the way I want to.Not that am not happy the way I'm now but who doesn't want more ??
No shortcomings. At least in one of the lives :P

Why doesn't discovery channel air such shows anymore ?

Delete bad memory

2 Cuppa coffeee [comments ]
A couple of months back I watched this movie - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ( interesting title huh ?) Its a '04 American film which uses the elements of science fiction to explore the nature of memory and love. The plot revolves around Joel & Clementine who fall out of love with each other after two years of relationship.Clementine then comes across the service of Lacuna , led by a doc that claims to to be able to erase all specific memories from a person's mind.Clementine erases Joel from her mind.

The particular part of erasing memory wouldn't be sci-fi anymore.

Few days back I read this article in TOI -'Researchers in Brooklyn have recently accomplished comparable feats with a single dose of an experimental drug delivered to areas of the brain critical for holding specific types of memory ,like emotional associations, spatial knowledge or motor skills. The drug blocks the activity of a substance that the brain apparently needs to retain much of its learned information. So far , the research has been done only on animals.( Researchers succeeded in erasing a learned memory in rats with a single doze of an experimental drug called ZIP) But scientists say this memory system is likely to work almost identically in people.'

Hmm there's a saying fiction is inspired from real-life.This looks like real-life inspired from fiction.

I'm amazed how both real-life & fiction co-relate each other.Of how , what one imagines is ultimately manifested by someone else some or the other time in a little different but typical form.
